Back To Work: Canada Post Employees Returns to Post Offices While Still Being on Nation-Wide Rotating Strike

Canada Post Workers Move to Rotating Strike as Canada Post is Ready to Welcome Back the Employees in Office.

Canada Post & CUPW: The Canada Post and Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has shared new updates as Postal Union Workers will be moving to Rotating Strike (CUPW) starting Oct 11 (CUPW News Release - Oct, 9). The Canada Post has today welcomed this news for employees to be going back in the office via Media Release. Although, the Workers are moving from Full to Rotating Strikes, Canada Post has gone to suspend 'All Mail & Parcel Shipping Guarantees' as Restarting Back after Nationwide strike begun on Sept 25 with "Half of Employees" on job with present mail backlog being one of main reasons. The Canada Post has also mentioned significant business loss due to accumulated 170 days of strike within a year. The Canada Post recently brought its New Offer (Oct 3, 2025) to the table to review with CUPW which was Rejected by CUPW. The New Proposal was to offer 13.59% of wage increase to workers over four years

Also, The Canada Post Press Release had specific mention about its 'Job Security for life' benefit which is as follows, "Canada Post is proposing a transparent workforce adjustment process that includes six months’ notice to CUPW, a period of consultation with the union, voluntary departure incentives of up to 78 weeks’ base pay, and seniority-based bidding and bumping. Layoffs will only be used if other measures, including attrition and departure incentives, prove insufficient to achieve reduction targets. With thousands of employees set to retire over the next few years, reducing the size of the workforce through attrition will always be the first choice, but it cannot be the only option through this transformation."

The Canadian Union of Post Workers (CUPW) has labelled This Move as Corporation "Not Being Serious" about Negotiations. The Members of CUPW National Executive Board and Negotiation Committees met with Joel Lightbound (Honorable Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement) to discuss this ongoing conflict on Oct 9. According to CUPW Meeting Report, "The Union spoke to Minister Lightbound about a number of issues regarding his recent announcement and its impact on negotiations with Canada Post. We raised concerns about the Government’s planned cutbacks and their impacts on the frequency of delivery and delivery standards. We discussed trends in parcel volumes and pointed to the $376 million in new revenue from the long-awaited postage increase this year."

Jan Simpson (National President, Canadian Union of Postal Workers) CUPW  has written Letter to Patty Hajdu (Honorable Minister of Jobs & Families) expressing lack of seriousness from Canada Post's Part to come and have Serious & Fair Negotiations. The Letter request and urge the government to take immediate action to resolve the conflict and ensure collective bargaining is restored in good faith. Meanwhile, Canada Post's latest update suggests, that company is waiting to hear back from the union on its latest offers which brings forward affordablity and treat employees fairly given the challenges we face. As per Canada Post, "Only new collective agreements will provide the certainty Canadians require to confidently use the postal system."

Further proceedings to come as Union Strike goes on in more days to come until reached an agreement with Canada Post. More to read is available from CUPW Newsroom. Also, Available to Read is Negotiation Updates from Canada Post Newsroom.
