Alex Honnold in Pre-Conversation with Tudum says, "One of the big differences between climbing a building and rock climbing is that there really isn’t a hardest single move. In some ways, it’s less intimidating than the big free solos [on rocks] that I’ve done. The challenge comes from the overall physicality of it. The fatigue that [sets in] over the course of the building is slightly harder to anticipate. I don’t know how it’s gonna feel."
The Tudum quotes Alex and suggests that his motivation to climb Taipei 101, comes from his long standing curiosity about, "What it would feel like to climb a building this big, Buildings are steeper than rock faces. Most rock faces aren’t actually vertical. Or, they’re not vertical the whole way, [like] the building is."

Alex also shared his "Mid-Climb Self Talk" which keeps him going for the complete climb, "Typically, my self-talk just has to do with taking some deep breaths and calming down my body, because if something happens you typically have a sort of adrenaline response either way." He Continued to Say, "I try to take some deep breaths, compose myself, take some time. There’s never any time pressure, so you can spend as long as you need just hanging in one space basically trying to compose yourself." (Source: Tudum)
