Tumbler Ridge Police Initiated Public Alert (PIPA), Lifted After No Remaining Threats Found at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia): On Feb 10 (2026) at 1:20 PM - 2:50 PM Tumbler Ridge Secondary School (School District 59) was under Police Emergency Alert due to a confirmed scene of shooting at the School. The residents were asked to stay inside, lock doors and refrain from leaving home or business at the time. The Alert was cancelled at 5:45 PM - 6:50 PM via update issued by RCMP & Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
The released update suggest RCMP personnel did active thorough search of the crime scene, with multiple victims located in the school and shooter being found deceased with what being described as "Self-Inflicted Injuries". This Shooting resulted in One casulaty (deceased) other than shooter with Two victims facing serious life threating injuries. Police have identified additional victims while performing the search and rescue at the school found to be deceased.
According to RCMP released update, 25 other victims are currently under preliminary assessment at local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. An ongoing investigation has been released to other locations related to School Shooting. Tumbler Ridge RCMP has currently deployed a team including Frontline officers, Emergency Response Team, BC RCMP Major Crime and Victim Services.
Ken Floyd (Superintendent, North District Commander) says, "This was a rapidly evolving and dynamic situation, and the swift cooperation from the school, first responders, and the community played a critical role in our response. Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and all those impacted by this tragic incident. This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional day for our community, and we are grateful for the cooperation shown as officers continue their work to advance the investigation."
RCMP has currently asked for local cooperation as police investigation takes place in coming days to support the victims, families and school authorities. The School authorities have currently declared School being closed for rest of the week due to today's incident.
