BC Transit offers Free Transit in some parts of Province of British Columbia during Earth Day Comemorations
BC Transit (Victoria, British Columbia) (April 16, 2026): Riders across some regions in British Columbia will be able to enjoy the Free Rides on BC Transit during Earth Day (April 22, 2026). These regions include Chilliwack, Kootenay (Central & Boundary), Nelson, Penticton & Victoria. The Earth Day marks a special time in life's of human kind as we celebrate and take time to focus back on nature, earth and planet where we all live on. The Day is also important from the perspective of sustainability and protecting environment, "What Better Way To Do So Than Opting For Public & Eco-Friendly Transit."
BC Transit does outlines some exclusions amongst the Free Transit routes which are Chilliwack region not including Fraser Valley Express and South Okanagan-Similkameen Transit System limited to Pentiction routes only.

BC Transits recent Press Release suggests, "Earth Day highlights the importance of sustainability and encourages people to make choices that reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) and help protect our environment. Taking public transit is one way to make a difference, and the following transit systems are providing free transit for both fixed-route and handyDART services to make it that much easier."
The Transit press release continues to highlights the completion of first phase of Electric Bus Project which will deploy 125 electric hybrid busses in the Eight regions i.e., Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Powell River, The Sunshine Coast, Victoria, and Whistler. The steps are important steps to reduce the Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions in communities to protect environment. The Low-Carbon Fleet program transit continues to work towards CleanBC climate action goals and electrify its current fleet system and updating the forward going strategy to support the healthier, welcoming and sustainable climate in British Columbia.
