Government of British Columbia (May 08, 2026) (Langley, British Columbia): David Eby (Premier of British Columbia) in presence of Mike Farnworth (Minister of Transport & Transit, British Columbia), Eric Woodward, Brenda Locke, Nathan Pachal, Kevin B. Quinn, Jen Temple accompained by Hon. Gregor Robertson (Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and responsible for Pacific Development Canada) and Hon. Randeep Sarai (Secretary of State International Development, and Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre) gave the construction update on Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Station Extension in South Fraser River (British Columbia). The Station construction which is currently underway at all eight stations along Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, is a landmark construction project as it will be connecting the region of Fraser Valley with Upstream & Metro Vancouver region (including McBride, Prince George, Quesnel, Hope, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, Maple Ridge, Township of Langley, Pitt Meadows, Surrey, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, New Westminister, Delta, Burnaby, Richmond & Vancouver). The Station foundation is completed at six stations, and is ongoing at 152 Street Station and Willowbrook Station.

The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Extension project will be expanding the Current Expo Line from King George Station in Surrey to Langley City Centre. The government is optimistic to bring more opportunities to build transit-oriented communities around under construction stations with expansion of primary care service options such as healthcare and childcare. The project includes 14-Kilometres of new, fully seperated multi-use pathways, connecting into regional active transportation networks and the new SkyTrain stations.

Hon. Gregor Robertson (Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and responsible for Pacific Development Canada) has said, "The Surrey Langley SkyTrain will transform the way people move around Metro Vancouver. Breaking ground on the last of eight stations is a huge step towards building vital and reliable public transit connections. Through collaboration, we are building the first rapid transit project south of the Fraser in 30 years."

Hon. Randeep Sarai (Secretary of State (International Development), and Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre) has said, "As construction begins on Willowbrook Station, we’re moving closer to a transit system that better connects people, communities, and opportunities across the region. The Surrey–Langley SkyTrain extension will make it easier for residents to get where they need to go by reducing service gaps, shortening commute times, and expanding public transportation across Metro Vancouver for years to come."

Hon. David Eby (Premier of British Columbia) ambitiously expressed, "Everyone needs to get to school, work, or appointments, and all the better if commutes go quickly with a minimum of stress. This new extension links the growing region south of the Fraser with the rest of Metro Vancouver, making commuting faster and easier, while relieving traffic congestion. With all eight new SkyTrain stations now under construction, we are closer to riders moving from Langley City Centre to downtown Vancouver in a little over an hour."

Mike Farnworth (Minister of Transportation & Transit, British Columbia) has said, "The Surrey–Langley SkyTrain extension is about more than just moving people—it’s about building stronger, more connected communities. This project will reduce congestion, cut commute times, and provide a reliable transportation for the region’s growing population."

Eric Woodward (Mayor of the Township of Langley, British Columbia) has said, "It’s great to see construction advancing on rapid transit to Langley. The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain will provide vital connections for our residents to jobs, education, and services around the region."

Brenda Locke (Mayor of Surrey, British Columbia) has said, "The Surrey–Langley SkyTrain extension is a major transportation investment that will strengthen connections across our region, reduce travel times, and support the long-term growth of our city. It will improve how people get around in City Centre, Fleetwood, and Cloverdale, and play an important role in shaping the future of these communities as they continue to grow."

Nathan Pachal (Mayor of Langley City, British Columbia) stated during the construction update, "It’s encouraging to see the speed and progress on this project. The Province’s leadership and strong coordination are helping deliver this investment in transit in a timely way for people across the region, including Langley City."

Kevin Quinn (CEO of TransLink) quoted this milestone construction development as, "Surrey Langley SkyTrain has been years in the making, and this milestone shows the planning, partnership, and sustained investment it takes to deliver a project of this scale. The decisions we make today turn long-term plans into real transit improvements, giving growing communities better ways to move for generations to come."

Jen Temple (Business Owner and President of Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce) has said, "Like any major transit project, there have been some temporary disruptions. But what really stands out is the long-term opportunity the Surrey Langley SkyTrain brings. It won’t just support local businesses with more foot traffic, it will make life easier for people with faster, more reliable ways to get to work, school, and important services. That kind of connectivity strengthens the whole community, and we’re excited to grow alongside it."

The major progress has been made at Fleetwood and Green Timbers station, where station structures are evidently visible and gradually moving towards vertical construction, building the stations vertically that will soon serve future riders. The guideway foundation construction are reportedly 90% complete, and 75% of guideway columns are built. The project expected to come live by 2029, with Trackwork begining in last week of April 2026 and instalation of rails starting 18 months after the start of major construction, marking the next phase of construction of the project. More than 30% of elevated guideway is complete across the corridor, says BC Gov News update

The massive and largest publically funded transit project carries heavy importance as both Federal & Provincial governments are investing substantially in this project, with $4.4 billion contribution from Government of British Columbia and $1.3 billion contribution from Government of Canada. The SkyTrain project has generated and currently supporting 26,700 jobs directly and indirectly throughout Canada. The foreseeable project is likely to serve 56,000 ridership (daily) in its opening year, with increasing to 80,000 riders (daily) by 2050. The project is expected to reduce the commute time between City of Langley & King George Station exponentially saving approx. 25 - 30 min of riders time spent during the commute.

A prodigious development project is set to create a mark and connect outer edges of Fraser River Valley to Metro Town of Vancouver. Click here to read the news release by BC Gov News. Click here to read the news release by Government of Canada.
