The Recent Acquisition of Cursor AI Is Now Off The Table
OpenAI (San Francisco, California) (August 28, 2026): Sam Altman's OpenAI is shifting away from the Elon Musk's Cursor as two companies formed an alliance on August 14 (2026) and today's annoucement came into light as OpenAI's lack of confidence in Musk's SpaceX and previous record of violating contracts and confidence to use the OpenAI tech resources within their Terms of Service. The company has shared a propossed shutoff date of November 12 (2026). The date has been selected to provide the maximum time of notice to give developers access to OpenAI models through Cursor.

The acquisition which started in april and was completed on August 14 (2026) with new partnership established between OpenAI & SpaceX's CursorAI to further expand the reach and capabilities of CursorAI. The deal was going to establish and share accesses of largest fleet of GPU's in the world to compute and build stronger models that are economical to run at lower cost. Space X gave GrokAI a new reboot and update in this month with a new version release Grok 4.6.
The OpenAI has turned this merger down amidst the new upcoming model Astra (a cybersecurity and agentic coding ai) to be used in accordance with Terms of Use established by OpenAI while maintaining the utmost quality and service experience for developers.
